A Brief History:
Aurora's 1972 attempt to get the ultimate in speed and handling from the standard AFX chassis design culminated in the famous yet short-lived AFX Super 2.
This car had all the latest technology: a "bullet proof" Quadra Lam double- wind armature, advanced timing commutator plate, brush tubes, gold plated braided pickup shoes, side floppy weights to dampen vibration, a front weight with a pin tube body mounting system that allowed easy chassis access, and a clear plastic body that allowed better handling. Nice looking aluminum wheels with sponge rear tires, and high strength magnets were used as well.
While there were problems with the braided pickup shoes on plastic track, the armature and other parts from this chassis aided performance of AFX cars. The list price was three times the price of a regular AFX car, which limited the marketability, but it was a trick chassis that many kids longed to have.
